    Agora was the commercial capitol of Athens and it was considered as the civic center
also. There were offices, schools, stores, workshops and many other urban
building were surrounded here. So this became the place where legislators, merchants
and philosophers used to meet and discuss. The most popular philosopher, Socrates
used to come here and give his speeches. He was sentence to death and drank his cup of hemlock in a prison located in this area. The Temple of Hephaistos or Thission, built in the 5th century BC are among the important archeological monuments in Agora.
