Athens Transportation
Most of the Athens city locations are accessible through the public transportation system.
This system a very efficient, reliable but less expensive. If you are planning to travel
according to your own plan, hiring a car is a better option.

to the Athens transportation is by blue busses, yellow trolleys and by Metro system.

Busses in Athens:
Athens bus network offers 24 hour operation. Some times visitors may get confused
because some of the destinations are mention in Greek letters.
Bus tickets can be purchased from some bus terminals, Kiosk and some other places and
available as single tickets or as a bundle. Make sure you have validate the ticket
at the start of the journey, other wise you may have to pay fine.

Athens Metro service :
The city of Athens has three metro lines, names M1, M2 and M3
The line M1 goes from Kifissia to Pireas and main stops are Kat, Maroussi,
Irini, Iraklio, Nea Ionia, Pefkala, Perissos, ano Patissia, A.G.Eleftherios,
Kato Patissia, A.G. Nikolaos, Attiki, Victoria, Omonia, Monastiraki,
Thissio, Petralona, Travros, Kallithea, Moschato & Falrio.
The M2 from Aghios Antonios to Aghios Dimitrios and the M3 from Athens Airport

This service is available from 5.30 am in the morning to 12.15 at midnight and
provides direct connection to most of the city locations and sites.

Athens trams provides 24 hour service and currently stops at 40 city locations.
Young people under 18 years can have reduced price tickets.
Taxies in Athens:
Athens taxies provides 24 hour service but some times its difficult to catch a
one. Higher rates are applicable at night time. Once you get in to the Taxi,
please make sure that the meter is reset and set to mode 1. If the meter is
set to 2 then that mean you have to pay double fare which is only applicable at
mid night.
There are several reputed taxi companies in Athens and you can book them
in advanced. Most of the taxi drivers can easily find out the all the city
locations.
Driving in Athens:
Some people hesitate to drive in Athens because of the peak hour traffics.
You can find number of car hiring agencies at the air port or can be get
from the city also. Driving is by right and overtaking in left. Seat belts
must be securely fitted and children under 10 years must travel in back seats.
