Grunewald Forest

  Grunewald Forest is the second largest forest in Berlin. This is located in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district in Berlin. The area covered by this forest is around 32 sq.km. Grunewald Forest was originally a royal hunting reserve, and was opened to the public only In 1915.The earlier name of the forest was Spandau Forest and only in 19th C use of new name came out.

  The Havel River, with its many bays and a lot of connected lakes is near by the forest making Grunewald Forest more attractive place to visit and relax.




  The major attraction of the Grunewald Forest is the 55 meter-high Grunewald Tower. This was built in 1899 in a Brandenburg brick gothic style. Grunewald Tower is the statue dedicated to the Prussian King Wilhelm I. Other main features are the Schildhorn and Grunewald Hunting Lodge and riverbank along the Havel in the west offer facilities for bathing.
