Berlin Subways and Urban Railway System

  The city of Berlin connected with both national and international train terminals. The underground lines (U-Bahn) and urban railway lines (S-Bahn) do the major contribution to the mass transportation in the city of Berlin.

  There are 9 U-Bahn lines (Underground U1 – Underground U9) covering total of 150 kilometers, and serving 170 stations. The Berlin U-Bahn system was started in early 1900s. This system runs with an average speed of 30kmh and there will be a train in every 2-3 minutes in peak hours.



  Berlin S-Bahn system is run by a company called S-Bahn Berlin GmbH. this system has totally 16 lines. Since this is a elevated service you can get a good view of the city. Panorama S-Bahn is popular choice of travel among visitors. This train has glass windows with panoramic view. Other facilities of this service are bar, air conditioned, disable access and swivel chairs.

  Berlin railway stations are easy to find. They are marked with special signs. Berlin U-Bahn stations are marked with a white U in blue background square and for S-Bahn it’s a round green sign with a white S in middle.
