Budapest Public Transport

Budapest public transport system consist of busses, trams, metro, trains and taxies. All the city locations are easily accessible with the public transportation system. Usually transport network starts around 4.30 am in the morning runs upto around 11.00 pm at night. But there are night bus service and some tram lines are under operation at mid night.

Budapest Bus service:
Buses covers most of the city areas and suburbs. Express busses also available , but they stops only selected major locations. Red numbers super express busses travels between the destinations without stopping in the middle way. You need to inform that you are getting down by pressing the button next to the door. Bus tickets are validated by hand or electronic punching.

Budapest Metro System:
Budapest metro system provides a efficient transportation on acceptable cost. Usually trains are available in 3 to 4 minutes intervals. Metro system consists of three main lines (M1- Yellow, M2-Red & M3-Blue) and Line M4(Green) is under construction.

Tickets and Passes:
Different type of tickets available for traveling. The single tickets are available in metro boots, newspaper outlets are valid for one non interrupted journey in all form of public transportation. Metro section tickets are valid for three stops on the Metro without changing the lines.

Tickets needs to pre purchased and validate at the starting of the journey. Validation can be done by punch or electronic machine available on board. Some bus drivers also sell tickets, but please note that they are not returning the change.

Budapest Card: This is a choice for tourists with lot of benefits. Cards are available in 48 hours or 72 hour basis and enables free rides by Budapest Transport Company public transport. Other benefits are free or discount admission for city attractions, restaurants, spas and other events.
