Dubai Metro System
This is the latest addition to the Dubai Transportation system. Dubai Metro system was designed to cater the increasing number of
tourists arriving to the city and reduce the traffic congestion.
There are designated compartments for ladies and children but most of the metro compartments are for both.
Initial Design and construction of the Dubai Metro system was started
in year 2005 and the first operation was commenced in 2009 September. Dubai Metro system is controlled by Roads and Transport
Authority (RTA) of Dubai.
Dubai Metro Tickets and cards:
There are several types of Cards and tickets available in Dubai Metro system. Red tickets
are commonly used by occasional users and can be purchased from ticketing offices and vending machines.
These paper tickets can be purchased for AED 2 and valid for 90 days.
Blue, Silver and Gold cards are available for 5 years and can hold up to AED 500 worth of credit. These cards
has E-purse, which deduct the correct fair automatically and can be recharged at any ticketing office.
Dubai Metro Lines:
Currently there are two main lines in the Dubai metro network designated with Red and Green color. The purple and blue
lines will commission soon.
