Singapore was originally called as "Temasek" in very ancient times. This name
was first mention around 1365 in a Javanese chronicle call "Nagarakretagama".
Those days this island was famous for pirates who preyed the passing ships. In
14th century this was call as "Singapora", Sanskrit term for lion City.
According to the legends, the reason for this name is some Sumatran prince
mistaking a tiger for a lion.

The late history begins with British civil servant Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles
founded Singapore in 1819. This was a important place for India - China trading
in those days. Japanese Empire conquered Singapore in World war 2 and British
control started again in 1945. With the self government level, Singapore joined
"Federation Of Malaysia" in 1963, but it was a temporary one. This became
independent republic in August 9, 1965 and that was the birth of the economic
giant in the world.
When we are studying the modern history of Singapore, it says that one man is
behind on all those miracles. That is former prime minister Mr.: Lee Kuan Yew
who is considered as father of the modern Singapore. He was the youngest prime
minister in the world at the time of his appointment and hold the party
leadership for 38 years and guided the country up to this stage. No need to
explain about his leadership, just visit Singapore and you can witness it.
